Submission on the Future of Europe

October 2017

In its Submission to the consultation on the Future of Europe EAPN Ireland has asked that the EU must return to the values in its Treaties which are not about economic goals but about improving the quality of life of everyone living in the EU, while playing a positive role in the wider world. The EU must choose a future which is more sustainable with balanced social, environmental and economic goals as it has committed to under the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

EAPN Ireland welcomes some of the measures announced in Budget 2018 as a contribution to partially repairing the damage of the years of austerity and to reducing the burden of poverty for some of the 403,000 in consistent poverty but argues that the new plan to address poverty being developed in 2018 must take a much more ambitious approach to have a real impact on poverty and ensure that everyone has access to an adequate income, quality services and decent jobs.

Summary of Regional Workshops for 2017 Social Inclusion Forum

Each year in advance of the national Social Inclusion Forum (SIF) EAPN Ireland and Community Work Ireland carry out local workshops and focus groups to get people’s input and support their participation. The Key Messages from meetings in Dublin, Galway and a focus group with people with experience of homelessness were presented to the SIF on the 25th May 2017.
