Future of Europe
EAPN Ireland has an active interest and role to play in the future development of the European Union. EAPN’s primary concern is that the European Union maximises its potential for every citizen by pursuing a social model rather than a primarily market driven model. At a national and European level, EAPN Ireland works to communicate the practicalities and benefits of a dynamic, people-focused social model to policy makers, member organisations, members of the public, people who experience poverty and social exclusion and to other interested stakeholders. The current debate around the future of Europe focuses primarily on the difficult and prolonged process involved in attempts to ratify the Lisbon Treaty. EAPN Ireland chooses not to take a partisan position on the treaty. Instead, the organisation engages with its members and provides unbiased, jargon-free information that empowers members and others to make up their own mind on the Lisbon Treaty and the future development of the European Union.
